Privacy Notice
Your personal information is important and I am bound by the BACP ethical framework and good practice relating to client confidentiality. This privacy notice explains how I collect, store, use and protect your personal data. It also explains why I need to do this and how to raise a data protection concern and how this would be dealt with.
Your personal data will not be shared with others without your consent, except in exceptional circumstances eg. when I am legally required to, such as for child protection/safeguarding or to comply with Court proceedings or if I felt that you were going to seriously harm yourself or another person.
To ensure my ethical compliance with 'best practice,' aspects and themes of our work together may be shared with my counselling supervisor. This process is also bound by confidentiality and is a BACP requirement as part of my registration accountability.
In the unlikely event that I was suddenly no longer able to offer counselling due to tragic circumstances, my 'Clinical Will' would be invoked. This would mean that my 'executive' would use your personal data to contact and inform you.
Your personal data will not be used or passed on for marketing purposes. I will not use it to contact you on social media. I will also not accept any social media invitations.
Your personal data will be used by me for the purposes of counselling.
Personal data may be collected via email, text or initial phone call. Also during in-person, online ' zoom' sessions or phone 'whatsApp' sessions.
Personal data may be stored and protected on my personal laptop and mobile phone by secure password. Session notes are hand written and kept separate from your personal information. They are stored in a secure, locked filing cabinet.
Your data will be stored for six years, to comply with good practice responsibilities and accountability requirements and then securely destroyed.
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018, you have the right to see your personal information. Requests for this must be sent to me in writing and I will respond within 28 days.
